About Susi Environmental School

A school built around the tide, the garden and the animals we already had.

Susi Environmental School opened in Pangandaran in 2026, a short walk from the beach and across the water from a reserve island that's still home to wild primates. It started with a simple idea: children learn best outdoors, surrounded by things worth taking care of.

How it started

The animals came before the classrooms did.

Before there was a school, there was a family home with goats, chickens and a fish pond. When SES opened, those animals didn't move out — they became the mini zoo, and looking after them became part of the curriculum rather than a field trip.

Everything else grew from the same instinct: use what Pangandaran already gives a child — the beach, the tide, a reserve full of wild primates across the water — instead of building a classroom to replace it.

What we believe

Five things we won't compromise on.

Nature-based education

The sea, the beach, the rice fields and Pangandaran's own culture are the children's daily learning space.

Integrated curriculum

Nature-based and built to international standards, tuned to the local wisdom of Pangandaran.

Character first

Children who are independent, disciplined, empathetic and responsible — that comes before anything academic.

Small learning community

Deliberately small classes: 8 to 12 children per level, so attention is personal.

Global readiness

21st-century skills through English, STEM, creativity and critical thinking.

Life on campus

The animals were here before the classrooms were.

Goats, chickens, a goose, a pony, a small flock of songbirds — feeding and checking on them is simply how a morning starts here, mini zoo included.

The fish pond works the same way: children get their hands wet and their questions answered by whatever's swimming past. Across the water, a forested reserve is still home to wild primates — close enough to watch, far enough to respect.
